Joséphine Klerks (b.1990) is a visual artist & illustrator based in the Swedish archipelago whose work revolves at the crossroads of ecological stewardship, motherhood, and folklore. Central in her process is to explore and depict a deep belief in the wholeness and balance of the natural world through a poetic lens.
Her practice encompasses a variety of mediums such as painting, earth pigment making, poetry, photography and textile. Through the process of collecting and extracting earth pigments, she explores a kaleidoscope of geological landscapes shaped by deep time knowledge.
Her mixed ancestry of Finnish, Dutch and Indonesian, brings her into questions around belonging to place as well as offers insights into challenging realities of the world and its history. She believes it begins by cultivating awareness and meanwhile, restore our relationship with land and earth.
